With extreme and adverse weather conditions causing chaos throughout Ireland this week, it has been near impossible for most people to get to work. With public transport out of action and many roads completely impassable due to high levels of snow drift, most industry’s and workplaces have closed. Whilst many industries can go one or two days without being affected too much, what happens in the healthcare industry?

There are thousands of people throughout Ireland that cannot go without the medical care they receive from nurses and healthcare assistants. Communicare provides life changing care to many vulnerable people, young and old, throughout the country. Unfortunately, many nurses and carers are not afforded the opportunity to be able to stay at home and wait out the storm – many braved the conditions to ensure that the most vulnerable clients had everything they needed.

Bereneice O’Rourke, CEO of Communicare took the opportunity to speak to Aine Lawlor on RTE Radio 1 yesterday to express her gratitude to these healthcare assistants and nurses. She went on to speak about the great lengths some staff members had gone to ensure that clients were not left without the care they require. Bereneice could not speak highly enough of our healthcare staff and nurses, mentioning one care assistant that drove for two hours in terrible conditions to ensure that his client did not go without the care that was needed. We would like to send our thanks and gratitude to all of our amazing care staff for their valiant and brave efforts in making sure that our most vulnerable clients did not go without the care they required. Nurses and care staff are the unseen heroes during difficult conditions like these. Their dedication to their jobs, their clients and the industry is truly amazing and are they are often not praised highly enough for the tremendous work they do.
