International Women’s Day
Tuesday the 8th of March 2016 is International Women’s day. Worldwide, women continue to contribute to social, economic, cultural and political achievement and International woman’s day has been celebrated globally since 1911.
The theme for this year’s day is ‘’Pledge for Parity’’. What they mean by this is that everyone, no matter what gender, can pledge to achieve gender equality more quickly. Whether it’s through helping women or girls achieve their ambitions, call for gender-balanced leadership, respect and value difference, develop more inclusive and flexible cultures or root out workplace bias, anyone and everyone can make a difference.
The National Women’s Council of Ireland will be holding a soapbox on the 12th of March at the bandstand in St. Stephens Green Park to commemorate the women of 1916. NWCI plans to examine seven themes which were crucial to the involvement of women:
Equality, Politics, Labour, Health, Creativity, Republicanism and Pacifism. Click HERE to find out more.
